I have a 1996 taurus wagon w no brakes at all. added fluid but no luck so far?

Car has been sitting for about a year without being started. Prior to this, I've never had a problem with the breaks. added 1qt of fluid to the system which promptly drained out of the reservoir after stepping on the brakes. There was no improvement afterwards.
