Cheap engine management system?

Is there such thing as a cheap engine management system? I don't care if its ebay second hand or not. I'm looking for under $500. ARE THEY ENGINE SPECIFIC? If so I need one for a nissan skyline rb25det engine. I would go buy that nice aem ems but I just forged the bottom end and am very close to my budget now. Any help would be great. Thanks
